The Proposal…
We take you now to June 29th 2013, the day before Jane’s 30th birthday. Cameron and Jane rose out of bed to start the morning with a birthday brunch down in Hermosa Beach, along with a few friends, Amanda, Art and Matt. It just so happened to be Amanda’s packing day as well. She was making the big move from Hermosa to Venice! So they all pitched in to assist her with packing after brunch. All except for Cameron. Coincidentally, he had made prior engagements at his parents house that day and left Jane behind to pack with the others after their mimosa brunch. Little did she know, Cameron was on his way to let his parents in on the big secret and gather some engagement advice in the process.
Now before we continue with our story there is a piece of information you should know about these two. Anyone who knows Cameron knows hes a prankster or a comedian, if you will. Well somewhere in the early months of their relationship Cameron started an ongoing joke. Randomly at any given time and especially anywhere romantic, Cameron would dramatically drop down to one knee, sincerely look up at Jane, say her name and let her know he needed to tie his shoe. That’s right, the fake proposal gag. Gets ‘em every time.
Meanwhile, back at the packing affair, Jane and the gang rest their muscles with a quick break. When out of the blue the subject of marriage arose. Jane had “a feeling,” she said “I have a feeling that Cameron is going to propose this year, this month, this day?!” she so eagerly told her friends. “Now, now Jane, don’t work yourself up over it, just to be disappointed that it didn’t happen,” her friends said. But who was right…
Cameron arrived to pick Jane up from Amanda’s packing extravaganza, to get ready for her birthday dinner. As night falls and they both prepare, Jane suddenly feels overwhelmed with nervousness. “Could this be it? Am I wearing the right clothes? Omg, you’re not even the one who has to propose! What if it doesn’t happen tonight?” All of these thoughts were rushing through her head, creating a whirlwind of confusion. All the while Cameron takes a mini trip to the ATM that takes almost an hour and Jane doesn’t even notice the time. Gee, I wonder what he has up his sleeve.
The drive to dinner was a bit on the awkward side. Somewhere along the lines of “how about them Dodgers” conversation. But before you know it they arrived to the restaurant, a romantic French restaurant called Mélisse in Santa Monica. Valet takes their car and just steps away from the door Cameron has to tie his shoe again, OH NO, wait, their aren’t any laces on his shoes. Jane is caught off guard in mid sentence as she is attempting to tell Cameron that “This is no time for jokes.” That’s right, this time is the real deal! And what do you know there’s a box and a ring. Cameron is so in the moment that he forgot to ask the question and just handed her the ring as he explained “This is just a proposal ring, we are going to go ring shopping for your engagement ring. I just didn’t know what to pick.” Jane speechless and in tears as she looks at Cameron waiting for the “oh. Will you marry me?”
